STREET DREAMS STUDIOS TOKYOは2024年5月2日より、美術家 UZO氏のSOLO EXHIBITION
「今様花 COME TO ME」を開催いたします。
UZO氏は広告プロダクションに勤務の後、フリーランスイラストレーターとして活動し、その後、美術家としての活動に移行。2013年より2017年までの5年に渡り、福岡市の禅寺「節信院」で個展を開催。2018年にはルイ・ヴィトン日本橋三越本店VIPルーム絵画（東京）に２点の作品が制作展示され、2019年、VOGUE（香港版）のウェブサイトにあなたがInstagramでフォローする必要がある7人のアーティストとして紹介されました。現在（2024年3月時点）ではInstagramフォロワー数は10万人を超え、世界中に多くのフォロワーを持つ美術家です。
また、イギリスの写真家 ニック・ナイト創設のファッションプラットフォーム「SHOWstudio」にアーティスト登録され、各種プロジェクトにも参加し、活躍の場を広げています。
UZO氏の作品は物質感を排除し、表面を完全にフラットに仕上げることで、鑑賞者に絵画を物質としてではなく、空間や景色との繋がりを感じてもらいたいと考えています。そのため、鑑賞者が絵画の表面に目を留めることなく、より空気感や気配のように感じ取ってほしい。関係性や物語を提示することを避けることで、鑑賞者に感じることを重視した芸術体験を提供する事を根幹としております。
そうした作品の中から、今回は約20点を発表します。UZO氏の作品は花をモチーフに描かれる事が多いのですが、花そのものではなく、花がそこに咲くように絵を表現したいという思いがあります。花が自然の中や街中で静かに咲いている…そんな存在の仕方を絵画で表現した新作になります。皆様にお会い出来る事、楽しみにしております。
[アーティストステートメント］
可能な限り偶然をコントロールし、呼び込み、自己の表現に取り込むこと。
自然の力と自意識のなす技とのコントラスト、ハーモニーを生み出したい。
私の絵画は自身と世界とのインプロビゼーション（即興）。
色や形、音、染み、それらに感応しながら線を引き、引っ掻きながら擦る。
またそれに呼応して色や形で肉付けを施しニュアンスを創っていく。
絵画としての完成を見せるのではなく、自分の内で新しく生成されたばかりの
美感、美意識を生のまま世界に提示し続けたいと考えている。
STREET DREAMS STUDIOS TOKYO will host artist UZO’s solo exhibition ‘今様花 COME TO ME’ from May 2nd, 2024.
After working full-time in advertising production, he changed careers to a freelance illustrator. Afterwards, he studied painting and became a full-time artist. Between 2013 and 2017, he had an ongoing exhibition at the “節信院 (Sesshinin)” in Fukuoka called “永遠の庭シリーズ(Eternal Garden Series)” which used flowers as its main motif.
In 2018, 2 of his pieces were exhibited in the VIP Room of the Louis Vuitton Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi store. In 2019, he was introduced in Vogue Hong Kong as one of the top 7 artists to follow on Instagram and now he currently has over 100 thousand followers from all over the world. He continues his work today as an artist exhibiting solo and in group exhibitions as well as has his name registered under photographer Nick Knight’s fashion platform ‘SHOWstudio’.
By eliminating the sense of materiality and creating completely flat surfaces in UZO's works, he hopes that viewers will feel the paintings not as physical objects, but as part of the space and scenery. Therefore, hoping that viewers will not focus on the surface of the painting, but rather perceive it as a sense of atmosphere or presence. By avoiding presenting relationships or stories, we aim to provide an artistic experience that emphasizes what the viewer feels.
For this exhibition, approximately 20 works from UZO's works will be exhibited. UZO's works are often drawn with flowers as the motif, but he wants to express his paintings to be flower-like rather than flowers themselves. Such as flowers blooming quietly in nature and on the streets...These are new artwork that expresses this way of existence through paintings.

[Artist Statement］
I control, invite, and incorporate chance into my self-expression as much as possible.
Wanting to create a contrast and harmony between the power of nature and the skill of self-consciousness.
My paintings are an improvisation between myself and the world.
Drawing, scratching and rubbing lines while being sensitive to colors, shapes, sounds, and stains.
In response, fleshing out the pieces with color and shape to create nuance.
Rather than showing the finished work as a painting, I would like to continue to present to the world the beauty and sense of beauty that has just been newly generated within me, as it is.
