STREET DREAMS STUDIOS TOKYOは、2024年9月13日（金）よりChris Pyrate（クリス・パイレート）による個展「Cherry Blossoms Regifted: from DC to Japan」を開催いたします。
アーティスト/デザイナー/壁画家であるChris Pyrateは、NBA・Nike・HYPEBEAST・Atmos・ユニクロ・Complex・MCMなど、名だたるコラボレーションを通じて国内外での認知を得ています。
ワシントンD.C.で生まれたクリスは、桜でいっぱいの街で育ちました。これらの桜の木は、1909年に当時の東京市長である尾崎行雄氏と、日本の化学者の高峰譲吉博士によってワシントンD.C.に贈られたものです。幼い頃のパイレートは桜の木だけでなく、自分の街と日本とのつながりにも大きなインスピレーションを受けました。
生まれつき芸術的な才能に恵まれていたクリスは、1990年代から2000年代初頭にかけて、当時アメリカでブームだった日本文化（アニメーションやストリートウェア）の影響を大きく受けました。これに加え、アメリカのアート、アニメーション、ストリートウェアも、5歳の頃から絵を描いてデザインを始めたクリスの芸術的な心に独自のインスピレーションを与えました。
今回、クリスの作品をワシントンD.C.から持ち込み、日本で発表出来る事は一つの巡り合わせであり、日本からワシントンD.C.に贈られた桜の木々とともに育ち、そこからクリスが受けたインスピレーションをアートという形で日本に返すことを意味する個展となります。

STREET DREAMS STUDIOS TOKYO will hold a solo exhibition titled 「Cherry Blossoms Regifted: from DC to Japan」by Chris Pyrate starting from Friday, September 13, 2024.
Chris Pyrate was Born in Washington D.C. Chris grew up in the city’s Cherry Blossom (Sakura) filled streets. These trees were originally gifted to D.C. in 1909 by then Tokyo’s Mayor, Yukio Ozaki & Japanese chemist, Dr. Jokichi Takamine. A young Pyrate found himself inspired not just by the Cherry Blossom trees, but also his city’s connection to Japan.
Growing up naturally artistic, in the 1990’s-early 2000’s Pyrate was greatly influenced by the large boom of Japanese culture (animation & streetwear) being imported at the time. This alongside the American art, animation & streetwear caused a unique blend of inspiration for Pyrate’s young artistic mind as he started to paint, draw & design as early as 5 years old.
Bringing his work to Japan, from Washington D.C. is a full circle moment. Encapsulating the inspiration he received from growing up with the Cherry Blossom trees Japan gifted to Washington DC & bringing it back to Japan in the form of the art it inspired him to make.
In alignment with Street Dreams Studios Tokyo’s practice of exhibiting international artists, Chris Pyrate ‘Cherry Blossoms Regifted: from DC to Japan’ will be on view from September 13 - October 13, 2024.

Chris Pyrate
Born in Washington D.C. & grew up in the city’s Cherry Blossom (Sakura) filled streets. Growing up naturally artistic, in the 1990’s-early 2000’s Pyrate was greatly influenced by the large boom of Japanese culture (animation & streetwear) being imported at the time. This alongside the American art, animation & streetwear caused a unique blend of inspiration for Pyrate’s young artistic mind as he started to paint, draw & design as early as 5 years old. In his development into a professional Artist, gaining both National and International recognition working with the likes of Nike, Hypebeast, Atmos, Uniqlo, NBA, Complex, MCM and more; Pyrate became known for his vibrant patterns, most popularly his pastel floral pattern which often incorporates the Cherry Blossom. This can be seen in the form of Murals painted all over the U.S. & Internationally, from New York City to The Netherlands as well as apparel collaborations ranging from X-Large to MCM.
